THE JESENÍKY AND BESKYDY MOUNTAINS
Travel incentives in Ostrava region. The Jeseníky and Beskydy mountains are a sporting paradise all year round. In the winter, a range of ski resorts offer excellent facilities for downhill and cross-country skiers, while skaters will enjoy gliding across the beautiful frozen lakes and ponds. In the summer, you can enjoy the breathtaking mountain landscapes from one of the many mountain bike trails – in fact you can cycle from Ostrava right to the summit of the highest peak in the Beskydy range, Lysá Hora. Both ranges offer a superb opportunity to plan hiking routes over several days. You can also try water sports, including sailing on the Slezská Harta reservoir.
With six golf resorts, the Region is an excellent golfing destination. If you choose Ostrava as your base, the nearest tee is just 20 minutes’ drive away, and the furthest is under 40 minutes.
Prosper Golf Resort Čeladná – one of Central Europe’s biggest golf resorts – has two 18-hole championship courses: the Old Course (designed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez) and the New Course. The resort has hosted the PGA European Tour three times, and its facilities rank among Europe’s finest.
Not far from the Čeladná course, between the twin peaks of Lysá Hora and Smrk, is the Golf & Ski Resort Ostravice. This 18-hole course has won the readers’ vote in Golf Digest magazine for the best course of the year on several occasions.
The Ropice Golf Resort is a modern complex designed by the Austrian architect Hans-Georg Erhardt. The 18-hole course offers spectacular views of the Silesian Beskydy mountains, and is a popular venue for tournaments – including events organized by the Czech Golf Federation. Its numerous bunkers and water hazards make it a fun and challenging experience to play.
The closest course to Ostrava is at the Šilheřovice Golf Club. The course is set amid the picturesque parkland of a fairytale chateau (once owned by the Rothschilds), including some valuable rare trees.
The Silesia Golf Resort Kravaře is also situated in the magnificent grounds of a Baroque chateau. It was opened in 2012 after a major reconstruction and expansion of the former course. Today it offers an 18-hole course that has quickly won popularity particularly among corporate clients.
The Golf Resort Lipiny is absolutely unique – it is situated in an industrial landscape between two still-functioning coal mines. It offers facilities both for beginners and experienced golfers, with a 9-hole championship course and a 9-hole public course.
Lovers of adrenaline sports are well catered for in the Region, with several resorts offering a wide range of experiences to quicken the pulse. The closest to Ostrava is Vaňkův Kopec, where you can try out tubing – riding in inflatable boats. The Heipark resort in Tošovice offers a bob track and rodeo, while Davidův Mlýn close to Opava has a unique bungee jump attraction. Mountain bikers will love the Region’s network of singletrack trails; the most popular are at Černá Voda and Bílá.
